New Delhi: The World No. 2 men’s doubles pair, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, displayed a stellar performance in the India Open 2024, securing a victory against Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia. The Indian duo won with a score of 21-18, 21-14, advancing to the final of the BWF 750 Series badminton tournament. Chirag-Satwik will face reigning world champions Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the final.
In the men’s singles semi-finals, HS Prannoy faced a tough match against the World No. 2 Shi Yu Qui of China, ultimately suffering a defeat with a score of 15-21, 5-21. Shi Yu Qui will compete against Hong Kong’s Lee Chuek Yiu in the final.
The women’s singles final is anticipated to be intense, with Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Chen Yu Fei of China facing off against silver medallist Tai Tzu-Ying of Chinese Taipei. Chen Yu Fei defeated Wang Zhi Yi, while Tai Tzu-Ying secured a victory against Yeo Jia Min.
In women’s doubles, Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara of Japan triumphed over Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee of South Korea. They will face Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu of China in the final.
The mixed doubles category witnessed a hard-fought win for former World champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand against Ye Hong Wei and Lee Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei. Reigning Asian Champions Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin of China will compete against the Thai pair in the final.
