Cleric Criticizes Mohammed Shami Again, Targets His Daughter for Playing Holi
March 16, 2025: New Delhi: After previously criticizing Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami for not fasting during Ramzan, a cleric has now targeted his daughter, calling her Holi celebrations “against Shariat.”
In a video released on Saturday, All India Muslim Jamaat president Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi commented on a viral video of Shami’s daughter playing Holi, saying:
💬 “If she is a small girl and does not understand, it is not a crime. But if she is sensible and still plays Holi, then it will be considered against Shariat.”
📌 Razvi had earlier accused Shami of “committing a sin” for not fasting during the ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia on March 6, after he was seen drinking water on the field.
📌 He urged Shami and his family to avoid practices that go against Shariat and said:
💬 “Holi is a very big festival for Hindus, but Muslims should avoid celebrating it.”
📌 However, he also congratulated Team India, including Shami, for their Champions Trophy victory:
💬 “I congratulate Team India’s captain, all players, and Shami for their success.”
⚡ Mohammed Shami has not responded to these comments, but fans have come out in support of the cricketer, emphasizing personal freedom and religious choice.
🏏 Many pointed out that Shami has been a key player in India’s recent cricketing success, and his faith should not overshadow his achievements.
📢 This renewed criticism has sparked a wider debate on religious boundaries, personal beliefs, and the role of public figures in religious discourse.
