Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the liquor policy case. His lawyer argued that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had no solid evidence against him.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader is expected to be released from jail tomorrow, once the bail order is delivered.
In court, Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer emphasized that the ED’s case was primarily based on statements from individuals who had turned approver.
“The statements come from those who have admitted their guilt. These individuals are not innocent; it seems some were promised bail or a pardon in exchange for their cooperation. Such approvers are not credible witnesses. Additionally, some individuals were not even arrested,” Mr. Kejriwal’s lawyer argued. Following this, the court reserved its decision before announcing the bail around 8 pm.
“The evidence must be compelling and directly linked to establish guilt. The statements from these tainted individuals undermine the prosecution’s case. There is no concrete proof that ₹100 crore came from the ‘South Group’. These are merely unsubstantiated claims,” the Chief Minister’s lawyer stated, referencing the alleged ‘South Group’, a lobby from Telangana accused of conspiring to secure liquor licences in Delhi.
