Doue Shines as PSG Crush Saint-Etienne 6-1, Edge Closer to Ligue 1 Title
SAINT-ETIENNE, France, March 30: Paris Saint-Germain delivered a resounding 6-1 win over Saint-Etienne on Saturday, led by a stunning brace from 19-year-old forward Desire Doue, as they moved within one point of securing their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title.
Despite a shock early goal by Lucas Stassin, which briefly gave relegation-threatened Saint-Etienne hope, PSG stormed back with six unanswered goals, showcasing their firepower and squad depth.
Goncalo Ramos equalized before the break with a composed penalty after being fouled by Florian Tardieu, setting the tone for a ruthless second-half display.
In the second half, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave PSG the lead with a low drive just five minutes in, before Doue struck his first of the night three minutes later, assisted by Bradley Barcola. Midfielder Joao Neves then joined the scoring party in the 62nd minute, and Doue added his second shortly after with a clinical finish.
“The first half wasn’t good for us. We conceded early, but the most important thing is how we responded,” said Doue after the match. “This is just the beginning. I’ll keep working hard for the team.”
Saint-Etienne briefly believed they’d won a penalty after a collision between Nuno Mendes and Lucas Stassin, but VAR overturned the decision, compounding the hosts’ frustrations.
Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye capped the night with a late goal, sealing a performance that leaves PSG top of the table with 71 points, 21 clear of AS Monaco with just seven games left.
Paris can officially clinch the Ligue 1 title next week with at least a draw at home against bottom-ranked Angers. Meanwhile, Saint-Etienne remain in deep trouble, sitting 19th and facing relegation with time quickly running out.
Final Score: PSG 6 – 1 Saint-Etienne
Goals: Ramos (pen), Kvaratskhelia, Doue (2), Neves, Mbaye | Stassin
