Freed American Faye Hall Thanks Trump After Taliban Captivity: “Proud to Be an American”

Recently released from Afghan prison, Faye Hall praises Trump’s role in her rescue as US hails Qatar’s mediation efforts

Washington DC [US], March 30: American citizen Faye Hall, who was recently released after being held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan, has publicly thanked former US President Donald Trump for her safe return, calling him a “saviour” for women still imprisoned abroad.

In a video message shared by The White House on X (formerly Twitter), Hall expressed deep gratitude:

“I’m glad you’re the President, and thank you for bringing me home. I have never been so proud to be an American citizen. Thank you, Mr. President.”

Hall, who had been detained in Kabul since February 2025 for allegedly operating a drone without authorization, spoke emotionally about her experience in the Afghan prison, where she said fellow female inmates viewed Trump as a beacon of hope.

“All the women in the Afghan jail, they always ask me, ‘When is Trump coming?’ They treat you like their saviour. They are waiting for you to come and set them free,” she said.

Hall’s Release and Diplomatic Efforts

According to CNN, Hall was released on Thursday following a court order and with logistical support from Qatar, which continues to serve as the United States’ diplomatic proxy in Afghanistan since the US withdrew and closed its embassy in 2021 after the Taliban takeover.

“Hall was received at the Qatari Embassy in Kabul and has been confirmed in good health after medical evaluations,” a source told CNN. “Plans are underway for her return to the United States.”

Former US Ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad confirmed Hall’s safe custody in a post on X:

“American citizen Faye Hall, just released by the Taliban, is now in the care of our friends, the Qataris in Kabul, and will soon be on her way home. Thank you, #Qatar, for your ongoing and steadfast partnership.”

Trump Allies’ Role in Securing Release

The development follows similar diplomatic missions by Trump-aligned envoys including Adam Boehler and Khalilzad, who also helped secure the earlier release of another American citizen, George Glezmann, through Qatari mediation.

While the US currently lacks a diplomatic presence in Afghanistan, Qatar has acted as its “protective power”—a nation responsible for facilitating communication and representing US interests with the Taliban government.

Faye Hall’s emotional testimony and the political spotlight on her release come amid renewed scrutiny of US hostage negotiations, with Qatar once again playing a pivotal mediating role in sensitive geopolitical situations.
