Harbhajan Singh Warns India: ‘Beware of Fakhar Zaman’ Ahead of Champions Trophy Clash

The former spinner cautions Team India about Fakhar Zaman’s ability to turn the game as India prepares for a high-stakes battle against Pakistan on February 23.

New Delhi [India], February 17:

With India set to face Pakistan in a highly anticipated Champions Trophy clash on February 23 in Dubai, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has issued a warning to Rohit Sharma and his teamkeep a close eye on Fakhar Zaman.

The veteran spinner highlighted the danger posed by Pakistan’s explosive opener, recalling his past heroics against India and his ability to single-handedly change the course of the match.

“Fakhar has that experience, and he can take the game away from India,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Fakhar Zaman’s Threat to India

The left-handed batter has a strong record against India in ODIs, having scored 234 runs in six matches at an impressive average of 46.80 and a strike rate of 82.39.

His most notable performance came during the 2017 Champions Trophy final, where he smashed 114 off 106 balls, guiding Pakistan to a dominant 338/4. India crumbled under the pressure of the massive target and suffered a 180-run defeat, giving Pakistan their maiden Champions Trophy title.

Historically, Pakistan has had the upper hand in the tournament, winning three out of five Champions Trophy encounters against India.

India Enters in Top Form, Pakistan Struggles for Consistency

Ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, India has been in sensational form, coming off a 3-0 series sweep against England. With a well-balanced squad and a dominant top order, India will look to extend their momentum into the marquee clash.

On the other hand, Pakistan has struggled with inconsistency. The Men in Green lost a tri-series on home soil featuring South Africa and New Zealand. While they stunned South Africa with a record 353-run chase, they failed to replicate that form in the final, where New Zealand comfortably secured victory.

India’s Road to the Pakistan Clash

Before the blockbuster showdown on February 23, India will kick off its Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Meanwhile, Pakistan will face New Zealand in the tournament opener on February 19.

With stakes high and history favoring Pakistan in this tournament, Harbhajan’s warning serves as a timely reminder for India to remain vigilant—especially against the ever-dangerous Fakhar Zaman.
