The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon in Kerala, predicting heavy rainfall from May 25 to 29. The IMD stated that conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance over parts of the Southwest Bay of Bengal, Central Bay of Bengal, and Northeast Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the next 24 hours, indicating heavy rainfall likely in isolated places across the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, and Alappuzha.
On May 26, a heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta. On May 27, only Alappuzha and Ernakulam are on alert. On May 28, the alert extends to Thrissur along with Alappuzha and Ernakulam. On May 29, the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam are expected to receive heavy rainfall warnings.
Furthermore, the IMD has issued wind warnings for fishermen on the Kerala and Lakshadweep coasts. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the South Kerala coast on May 25 and those already at sea are advised to return to the coast. In Lakshadweep, wind warnings have been issued for May 25, 28, and 29.
