“I Am Keeping All Options Open”: Rohit Sharma on His Cricketing Future

After leading India to back-to-back ICC titles, skipper Rohit Sharma remains uncertain about his participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup but insists he is enjoying his game and team environment.

New Delhi, March 11: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has hinted that while he is currently enjoying his cricket, he is unsure about playing in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, stating that he is “keeping all options open” regarding his future in the game.

After leading India to two consecutive ICC white-ball titles—the T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025—Rohit’s next milestone could be the 50-over World Cup in 2027, set to take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. However, with the tournament still over two years away, Rohit, who will be 40 by then, remains non-committal about his participation.

“It is very hard to say that right now,” Rohit said when asked about playing in 2027, as quoted by ICC.
“But I am keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I am playing. Right now, I am playing really, really well, and I am enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice.”

“I Cannot Really Say About 2027, But I Am Keeping My Options Open”
While speculation was rife that the Champions Trophy final could be his last in ODIs, Rohit dismissed such rumors and emphasized that he would continue playing as long as he enjoys the game.

“As long as I am enjoying the sport, I am enjoying playing the game, doing what I am doing for this team, I will continue to play,” he said.
“It is something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there is so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I do not want to leave this team.”

Hitman’s Champion Performance in 2025

Rohit was instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy victory, scoring 180 runs in five matches at an average of 36.00 and a strike rate of 100.00, with his best score of 76 coming in the final against New Zealand.

While age, form, and fitness will play a significant role in determining whether Rohit continues until 2027, the Indian skipper has certainly earned the right to decide his future after leading the team to multiple ICC triumphs. For now, he remains focused on enjoying the present and contributing to India’s success in the shorter formats.
