Israel Strikes Hezbollah Weapons Site Amid Rising Tensions in Lebanon
Tel Aviv [Israel], February 23: The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Sunday that Israeli aircraft carried out airstrikes on a Hezbollah weapons site in southern Lebanon, destroying rocket launchers and other arms caches that posed an “imminent threat.”
According to Lebanese media reports, the strikes took place in Tyre, a region known for Hezbollah’s operations. The attack coincided with thousands of Hezbollah supporters gathering in Beirut for the funeral of Hassan Nasrallah, a senior Hezbollah leader.
The latest airstrike follows Saturday night’s Israeli operation, where IDF aircraft struck weapons smuggling routes along the Syria-Lebanon border, preventing Hezbollah from transferring military assets into Lebanon.
Israel has repeatedly warned against Hezbollah’s military build-up near its borders, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement.
Under the November 27 ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah was required to withdraw from southern Lebanon beyond the Litani River, while Israeli forces pulled back from most of southern Lebanon.
However, Israel remains stationed in five strategic locations, with US approval, due to dissatisfaction with the Lebanese army’s deployment in Hezbollah-dominated areas.
With escalating tensions, the fragile ceasefire remains at risk, as both Israel and Hezbollah continue tactical operations along the border.
