“It’s About Sharing and Understanding”- India Batting Coach On Rohit and Virat

Sitanshu Kotak emphasizes collaboration with senior players like Rohit and Virat to enhance their game and adapt to challenges ahead of the third T20I against England.

Rajkot (Gujarat), January 28: India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has shared insights into his role in working with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, emphasizing collaboration and understanding as key components of his approach.

Speaking ahead of the third T20I against England in Rajkot, Kotak acknowledged the challenges both batters have faced recently, with their form dipping following India’s T20 World Cup victory.

Sharing and Learning Together

Kotak underlined the importance of mutual learning and contributing positively to the preparation and mindset of experienced players.
“Rohit and Virat are very senior players. My role involves sharing ideas and trying to understand how they plan their games. If I can contribute 2 to 5 per cent to their thought process, that’s a big achievement,” Kotak said during a pre-match press conference.

He added that the immense experience of these players offers opportunities for him to learn as well.
“The amount of cricket they’ve played and their achievements mean there’s a lot for me to learn from them too. You have to be open and ready to adapt,” he stated.

Challenges for Rohit and Kohli

The 2024-25 Test season has been particularly tough for the duo. Rohit Sharma, India’s skipper, scored only 164 runs in eight matches at a meager average of 10.93, with a solitary half-century. While he turned to domestic cricket to regain form, his Ranji Trophy outing produced scores of just 3 and 28.

Virat Kohli has also struggled, amassing 382 runs in 10 matches at an average of 22.87, with only one century and one fifty during the season.

Timing Input and Guidance

Kotak emphasized the importance of timing when offering suggestions to seasoned players like Rohit and Virat.
“If they’re in the mindset to take inputs, I’ll share my thoughts. It’s crucial to identify the right moment when they feel ready for it,” he said.

India Leads the Series

India holds a 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series against England. With the third T20I set to take place in Rajkot, Kotak’s collaborative approach and the performance of senior players could play a pivotal role in securing the series win.
