Kamala Harris Vows to End Gaza Conflict, Ensure Healthcare and Reproductive Rights

Michigan [US], November 4, 2024: With the US presidential election just around the corner, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris made a bold appeal at a rally in Michigan, vowing to bring an end to the Gaza conflict, secure the release of hostages, and ensure both Israel’s security and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. Harris’s remarks underscored her commitment to a peaceful resolution in the region, while also advocating for key domestic reforms.

“I want to say that this year has been difficult, given the scale of death and destruction in Gaza and the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon. As President, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, to bring home the hostages and the suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel is secure, and ensure the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination,” Harris declared to the crowd. She further emphasized diplomatic efforts, stating, “We continue to work on diplomatic resolutions across the Israel-Lebanon border to protect civilians and provide lasting stability.”

Harris also advocated for a generational shift in American leadership, highlighting her commitment to fight for affordable healthcare, lower taxes, and accessible housing. “It is time for a new generation of leadership in America, and I am ready to offer that leadership as the next President of the US,” she said, pledging to “cut taxes for workers and middle-class families, make housing and childcare more affordable, and lower healthcare costs.”

Harris reiterated her stance that “healthcare should be a right and not just a privilege,” addressing economic issues central to American families. “If you give me the chance on your behalf to fight as President, there is nothing in the world that will stand in the way. I will get up every day to fight to make your life better,” she told attendees, promising to tackle corporate price gouging and reduce living costs. Harris further highlighted her intent to preserve the Affordable Care Act, saying, “I believe healthcare should be a right and not just a privilege for those who can afford it.”

In addition to her pledges on healthcare, Harris committed to safeguarding reproductive rights nationwide, a central point of her campaign. “We are not going back because ours is a fight for the future, and it is a fight for freedom, including the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not the government telling her what to do,” she said, assuring supporters that she would “proudly sign” any future bill from Congress to restore reproductive freedom in the US.

The US presidential election, set for November 5, sees Harris vying against former US President Donald Trump, who is campaigning for a return to the White House. Harris is seeking to make history as the first female president of the US. According to a recent poll by the New York Times and Siena College, Harris and Trump are tied at 48 percent, reflecting an election too close to call after months of intense campaigning.
