Mass Shooting at Mexican Religious Festival Leaves 12 Dead, 20 Injured in Guanajuato
June 26, 2025 – A joyous celebration turned into a scene of horror in Irapuato, Mexico, late Tuesday night as gunmen opened fire on a crowd celebrating St. John the Baptist, killing at least 12 people and injuring 20 others, according to local authorities.
Videos circulated on social media captured the chaos as people were dancing and drinking in the street before sudden gunfire sent them fleeing in panic. Blood-stained streets and the sounds of screams echoed across the neighborhood.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed sorrow over the tragedy and confirmed that an investigation is underway. This incident marks the second such attack in recent weeks — in May, seven people were killed at a Catholic Church-organized event in San Bartolo de Berrios, also in Guanajuato.
