Crores take holy dip at Sangam, Ganga ghats witness massive faith surge

January 18, 2026: A massive wave of devotion swept across India on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya as lakhs of devotees thronged major pilgrimage centres to take the sacred holy dip. From Prayagraj to Varanasi and Haridwar, riverbanks were filled with pilgrims braving biting cold to participate in the revered Maha Snan, marking one of the most spiritually significant days in the Hindu calendar.

The largest congregation was witnessed in Sangam city Prayagraj, where the Magh Mela is currently underway. Mauni Amavasya, considered the most important bathing day of the fair, turned the Triveni Sangam into a grand spiritual spectacle. Saints, Kalpvasis, and devotees from across the country were seen taking the holy dip together. As per official estimates, more than one crore pilgrims had completed the ritual bath by morning, with numbers continuing to rise steadily through the day.

Similar scenes of devotion were reported from Varanasi and Haridwar, where thousands gathered along the ghats of the Ganga to offer prayers and perform religious rituals. From the early hours, dense crowds lined the riverbanks, reflecting deep-rooted faith and tradition. The Magh Mela once again emerged as a powerful symbol of collective spirituality, showcasing the enduring religious devotion of millions on the sacred occasion of Mauni Amavasya.
