Mbappe Brace Inspires Real Madrid to Thrilling 3-2 Comeback Win Over Leganes

Real Madrid move level on points with Barcelona as Kylian Mbappe’s double sinks relegation-threatened Leganes in La Liga clash

Madrid, March 30: Kylian Mbappe showcased his brilliance with a stunning brace as Real Madrid staged a comeback to edge past Leganes 3-2 in a dramatic La Liga encounter at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday. With this victory, Los Blancos drew level on points with arch-rivals Barcelona at the top of the table, keeping the title race wide open.

Coming off the international break, Real Madrid looked rusty despite a dominant start. Mbappe put the hosts ahead in the 32nd minute with a composed chip from the penalty spot after Arda Güler was brought down by Oscar Rodriguez.

However, Leganes responded instantly—Diego Garcia tapped in an equaliser just a minute later, and in the 41st minute, Dani Raba stunned the Bernabéu crowd by putting the visitors ahead after being set up by Rodriguez.

But Real hit back early in the second half, with Jude Bellingham scoring from a rebound just two minutes after the restart to make it 2-2. The match seemed destined for a draw until the 76th minute when Mbappe curled in a spectacular free-kick, sealing the win for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“It was a difficult match. After the international break, it’s always tough,” said Mbappe. “But we stayed calm. We knew we could turn it around. We’re happy with the win.”

The French forward also revealed that the winning set-piece was a well-rehearsed move:

“We worked on that free-kick with the staff. I saw the space, took my chance—and it paid off.”

Leganes Left Reeling but Proud

Despite a valiant effort, Leganes slipped to their third straight defeat, sitting 18th in the table, level on points with Alaves but behind on goal difference.

“We gave it everything,” said Diego Garcia. “We fought till the end and can walk away with our heads held high. It came down to fine margins.”

La Liga Title Race Heats Up

With this win, Real Madrid now have 63 points from 29 games, same as Barcelona, who will face Girona on Sunday. Atletico Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Espanyol sees them six points behind the leaders in third place.

The race for the La Liga crown is intensifying, and with Mbappe hitting top form, Real Madrid look poised to challenge Barcelona all the way to the finish line.
