Muscat International Book Fair Draws Over 6.49 Lakh Visitors, Celebrates Global Literary Diversity

With participation from 35 countries, including India, the 29th edition spotlighted over 600,000 titles and underscored Oman’s growing status as a cultural and literary hub.

Ashoke Raj, Freelance Journalist, Muscat, Oman – May 4, 2025: The 29th Muscat International Book Fair concluded on a high note, welcoming more than 6,49,589 visitors from across the globe at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre between April 23 and May 2. This year’s edition shattered attendance records, solidifying its role as one of the Middle East’s most influential literary and cultural events.

Under the theme “Cultural Diversity: Enriching Civilisations,” the fair brought together 674 publishers from 35 countries, including a strong Indian contingent. Collectively, they showcased over 600,000 titles in Arabic and foreign languages. Notably, 19,000 titles were authored by Omanis, highlighting the nation’s evolving literary landscape.

The book fair served as a dynamic cultural hub, appealing to all generations. From literary debates and scholarly exchanges to children’s storytelling sessions and workshops, the fair provided a platform for dialogue, education, and intellectual growth.

“This Book Fair serves as a cultural hub, drawing in families seeking enriching experiences as well as the intellectual elite who regard it as a vital platform for literary exchange and thought leadership,” said Sheikh Al Mahrouqi, Director General of International Media. “The overwhelming turnout—exceeding half a million visitors—demonstrates the fair’s significance not only for Omanis but also for our many international guests.”

The fair hosted more than 211 cultural programs and 155 children’s activities, offering something for every reader. India’s participation added a rich layer to the experience, showcasing a diverse range of literature, educational materials, and cultural performances that captivated the multicultural audience.

Organizers noted that the fair’s success reflects Oman’s growing influence as a regional nexus for literature, education, and cultural diplomacy. Plans are already underway to expand next year’s edition and deepen international collaborations.
