MWL reiterates global Islamic rejection of terrorism; praises Saudi-India cooperation in combating extremism and cross-border violence
Mecca [Saudi Arabia], April 23:
The Muslim World League (MWL) has issued a strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed over 25 lives and left several others injured. Calling it a “heinous crime”, the MWL extended heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the MWL’s General Secretariat reiterated its unequivocal rejection of terrorism and violence in all forms, emphasizing that no religion or culture should be linked to such acts.
“The MWL affirms its stance — and that of the entire Islamic world — rejecting and condemning violence and terrorism in all its forms and justifications,” the statement read. “We reject any attempt to associate terrorism with any religion or culture.”
The MWL also acknowledged the joint statement issued following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, which highlighted the shared condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed both nations’ resolve to dismantle terror networks and cut off their funding sources.
The MWL praised the Saudi-Indian strategic partnership in fighting terrorism, particularly cross-border threats, and emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
This condemnation joins a growing chorus from across the Arab world, where several nations have denounced the attack. It marks one of the most severe terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
In response, Indian security forces have launched an extensive manhunt to track down the attackers, and security across the region has been tightened. Widespread protests and shutdown calls have emerged in solidarity with the victims, as the nation continues to mourn the loss.
