"Nat Sciver-Brunt Always Finds the Bowler to Target" – Mithali Raj on Mumbai Indians' Dominant WPL Win
New Delhi, February 28: Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a commanding performance in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, defeating UP Warriorz (UPW) by eight wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The victory propelled MI to the top of the points table, with Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews leading the charge.
Former India captain Mithali Raj, analyzing the match on JioCinema, praised MI’s clinical approach, especially highlighting Sciver-Brunt’s ability to dictate the chase:
“Nat Sciver-Brunt, coming in at number three, has consistently created momentum in the chase for Mumbai Indians. She always manages to identify that one bowler to target for a big over, and that ability continues to be instrumental in getting Mumbai Indians across the line.”
Sciver-Brunt played a sensational unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 44 balls, smashing 13 boundaries, and ensuring MI’s comfortable chase. She also starred with the ball, returning figures of 3/18 in four overs, dismantling UPW’s middle order.
Mithali Raj further emphasized Sciver-Brunt’s tactical brilliance with the ball:
“She is a very smart bowler. Right from the first over, she got her off-cutter going. She understands her bowling strengths well and sets the field accordingly. While she may not have express pace like Shabnim Ismail, her variations, especially the off-cutters, make her incredibly dangerous.”
Raj specifically pointed out her strategic dismissals of Kiran Navgire and Chinelle Henry, where she used her pace variations to deceive the batters.
With momentum firmly on their side, Mumbai Indians will now face Delhi Capitals on Friday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, aiming to extend their winning streak in WPL 2025.
