“No One Can Retire Rohit and Virat” – Yograj Singh Hails Captain’s Decision to Play On

Former cricketer Yograj Singh praises Rohit Sharma’s decision to continue playing, urging him and Virat Kohli to retire only after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup.

New Delhi, March 11: Former India cricketer Yograj Singh expressed his delight over Rohit Sharma’s decision to continue playing after leading India to a historic Champions Trophy triumph against New Zealand in Dubai.

Amid widespread speculation that the Champions Trophy final could be Rohit’s last ODI, the Indian skipper quashed retirement rumors after the match, stating:

“I am not going to retire from this format.”

Welcoming Rohit’s decision, Yograj Singh emphasized that both Rohit and Virat Kohli should think about retirement only after securing the 2027 ODI World Cup title, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

“The best thing is that Rohit Sharma said he is not retiring. Well done, my son. Nobody can retire Rohit and Virat. They should think about retirement after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. I had said this before—India would win,” Yograj said.

Rohit’s Masterclass in the Final

In the high-stakes clash against New Zealand, Rohit once again showcased his prowess as India’s most dominant ODI batter, scoring a match-winning 76 off 83 balls.

Chasing 252, Rohit tore into New Zealand’s disciplined bowling attack, providing India with a solid 105-run opening stand with Shubman Gill (31 off 50 balls). Though wickets fell at regular intervals, the Indian skipper controlled the chase with calculated aggression, keeping the scoreboard moving during crucial middle overs.

Rohit’s innings ended in dramatic fashion when he danced down the track, swung hard, and was stumped, leaving India in a tricky position. However, Shreyas Iyer (48), Axar Patel (29), and KL Rahul (34) carried the fight forward*, ensuring India lifted the trophy with a four-wicket win.

India’s Glorious Campaign Ends with Historic Triumph

With this victory, India became the first team to win the ICC Champions Trophy three times, further cementing their dominance in world cricket. Rohit’s remarkable leadership and aggressive batting played a pivotal role in India’s unbeaten campaign, and his decision to continue will boost the team’s morale heading into future tournaments.

As Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli gear up for the next phase of their careers, Yograj Singh’s words echo the sentiments of millions of fans hoping to see these legends script another historic World Cup triumph in 2027.
