Operation Sindoor: “Hope It Ends Quickly” Trump Reacts, UN Calls For Calm

As India strikes nine terror sites in Pakistan and PoK, global reactions pour in with the US and UN calling for calm and diplomatic resolution.

May 7, 2025: Washington / New York – Hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, striking nine terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, global leaders reacted with concern and cautious appeals for de-escalation.

US President Donald Trump, speaking from the White House, called the situation “a shame” and said:

“We just heard about it as we were walking into the Oval Office. They’ve been fighting for a long time — decades, centuries even. I just hope it ends very quickly.”

The strikes were launched by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force in a rare tri-services operation in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Echoes Call for Calm

Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo @POTUS’s comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution.”

The Indian Embassy in Washington DC confirmed that National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed both the US NSA and Secretary Rubio shortly after the operation, emphasizing that the strikes were “focused, precise, and non-escalatory”.

A statement released by the embassy said:

“India has credible leads, technical inputs, and survivor testimony confirming the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists in the brutal April 22 attack in Jammu & Kashmir.”

UN Calls for ‘Maximum Military Restraint’

The United Nations also weighed in, urging both nations to avoid further escalation.
A spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres said:

“The Secretary-General is very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and international border. He calls for maximum military restraint from both countries. The world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan.”

The strikes have drawn global attention not just for their scale but also due to the nuclear capabilities of both nations, making international appeals for restraint particularly urgent.

As tensions simmer, global diplomatic efforts are now focused on preventing further escalation — even as India maintains that it reserves the right to respond to terrorism with decisive and proportionate force.
