Amid escalating tensions following the Pahalgam massacre, Pakistani troops resort to unprovoked firing across the Line of Control; Indian forces retaliate without casualties.

Pakistani troops opened “unprovoked” fire on Indian posts across the Line of Control (LoC) late last night, escalating tensions between the two countries in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead. This marks the second consecutive night of ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
According to the Indian Army, firing was reported from multiple Pakistani posts along the LoC, which divides Indian and Pakistani forces across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Indian troops responded “appropriately” with small arms fire, the Army confirmed, adding that no casualties were reported on the Indian side.
“On the night of April 25-26, unprovoked small arms firing was carried out by multiple Pakistan Army posts across the LoC in Kashmir. Indian troops responded appropriately. No casualties reported,” an official statement read.
Military sources suggest that Pakistan’s speculative firing may be an attempt to test the alertness of Indian forces, as New Delhi weighs stronger action against terror infrastructure across the border.
Escalating Fallout After Pahalgam Attack
The ceasefire breaches come amid a series of retaliatory moves by India following the brutal terror strike in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, often called “Mini Switzerland,” where 26 tourists were gunned down by terrorists.
In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, with the Water Minister declaring that “not a drop” of Indus river water would flow into Pakistan. Diplomatic ties have also sharply deteriorated, with both nations withdrawing their diplomatic staff and cancelling visas, compelling visitors to return home swiftly.
Islamabad, reacting sharply, announced the suspension of all bilateral agreements with India, including the historic Simla Agreement. The iconic Wagah Border ceremony, a major tourist attraction on both sides, has also been shut down indefinitely.
Tensions continue to mount as both militaries maintain a high state of alert along the Line of Control.
