PM Modi Named Operation Sindoor: A Symbolic Tribute to the Widows of Pahalgam Massacre
May 7, 2025: New Delhi – In a deeply symbolic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally named India’s counterstrike against Pakistan-based terror camps ‘Operation Sindoor’, senior government sources confirmed. The name invokes the vermilion (sindoor) worn by Hindu women as a sign of marriage — a poignant reminder of the 25 women widowed in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 innocent lives were taken.
An official image released by the Indian Army shows “Operation Sindoor” in block letters — with one of the ‘O’s illustrated as a bowl of spilled sindoor, representing the lives and families torn apart by terrorism. The message beneath read: “Justice is served. Jai Hind.”
In the Pahalgam attack, tourists were asked their religion and executed in front of their families. Among the most haunting visuals was newlywed Himanshi Narwal, her wedding bangles still on, beside the lifeless body of her husband, Navy officer Lt. Vinay Narwal. Another video showed Pallavi Rao, once smiling on a shikara ride, now pleading for help after her husband was gunned down.

From Shital Kalathiya to Sohini Adhikari, Aishanya Dwivedi to Pragati Jagdale, widows across the country have described Operation Sindoor as a “befitting reply” and a “real tribute” to their lost loved ones.
“Wherever my husband is, he will be at peace today,” said Aishanya.
“On hearing the name of this operation, I had tears in my eyes,” added Pragati.
Sources say PM Modi monitored the precision strikes throughout the night, as India’s Army, Navy, and Air Force carried out the nation’s first tri-services military operation since the 1971 war. The strikes targeted nine terror bases used by Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Earlier, PM Modi had vowed retribution:
“This attack was not just on innocent tourists; the country’s enemies dared to strike at India’s soul.
The time has come to raze what remains of the terror haven. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth.
Terrorism will not go unpunished. The entire nation is firm in this resolve.”
The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to world leaders and nations who stood by India.
“Everyone who believes in humanity is with us,” he said, in a message of international solidarity against terror.
