Prashant Kishor Detained During Hunger Strike Over BPSC Paper Leak Allegations

Jan Suraaj Chief Vows to Continue Protest, Announces High Court Petition Amid Accusations of Politicizing Student Movement

Patna (Bihar), January 6: Jan Suraaj chief Prashant Kishor was detained by Patna Police in the early hours of Monday while sitting on an indefinite hunger strike demanding action over the alleged BPSC exam paper leak scandal.

The Patna Police vacated Gandhi Maidan, where Kishor had been leading the protest alongside students demanding the cancellation of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination, held on December 13, over allegations of a question paper leak. Vehicle checks were also conducted around the protest site.

Before being escorted into an ambulance by the police, Prashant Kishor reiterated his commitment to the cause, announcing that Jan Suraaj will file a petition in the High Court on January 7 addressing the irregularities in the BPSC examination.

“We will continue this fight without any change. The party will file a petition in the High Court on January 7 to ensure justice for the students,” Kishor stated.

Political Reactions and Criticism

Earlier, Kishor had called upon Leader of Opposition (LoP) Tejashwi Yadav to lead the protests, emphasizing that as a “tall leader” and prominent political figure, Yadav should take charge.

“He (Tejashwi Yadav) is a tall leader and the Leader of Opposition. He should have led the protests. I have been asking him to step forward. This movement is about students, not politics,” Kishor remarked.

In response, Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP and its alleged allies of politicizing the movement. He also criticized the presence of Kishor’s “vanity van” at the protest site, calling it a theatrical stunt.

“This is being completely politicized. People must recognize the BJP’s ‘B’ team trying to exploit an independent student movement,” Yadav said.

Student Demands and Protest Atmosphere

Students have been demanding the cancellation of the Integrated Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, conducted by the BPSC, citing allegations of a question paper leak.

Kishor emphasized the authenticity of the student movement, rejecting allegations of political motives.
“This is not a political dharna. It’s a people’s movement for justice and a better future,” he said.

The protests at Gandhi Maidan have drawn widespread attention, with political parties, student organizations, and social activists closely monitoring the developments.

The situation remains tense as students await action from authorities while Jan Suraaj prepares to move to the High Court on January 7.
