Rohit Sharma on Champions Trophy Win: “A Very Satisfying Victory”

India captain Rohit Sharma thanks fans for their unwavering support, hails spinners’ impact, and praises KL Rahul for his composed finishing as India clinch their third ICC Champions Trophy title.

Dubai [UAE], March 10: After leading India to their historic third ICC Champions Trophy victory, captain Rohit Sharma expressed deep gratitude to the fans and lauded his team’s dominant performance in the final against New Zealand. India’s four-wicket win in Dubai further solidified their status as a global powerhouse in white-ball cricket.

“I appreciate everyone who came to support us. The crowd has been amazing. Not our home ground, but they made it our home ground. Very satisfying win,” Rohit said during the post-match ceremony.

Spinners Steal the Show

Rohit credited India’s spin attack for playing a pivotal role in controlling the game. The duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav stifled New Zealand’s middle order and tilted the game in India’s favor.

“Right from the beginning, there was a lot of expectation on our spinners, but they never disappointed. The pitch helped them, and we used that to our advantage. We were very consistent with our bowling,” he added.

Praising mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, Rohit said:

“He has something different about him. When you play on such pitches, you want someone like him. He didn’t start the tournament, but when he got a chance, he delivered. Luckily for us, it worked perfectly.”

“KL Rahul Has a Very Solid Mind”

Rohit also showered praise on KL Rahul, who played a composed finishing role throughout the tournament, helping India seal crucial matches under pressure.

“[KL] has a very solid mind. He never gets overawed by pressure. He finished off the game for us. He picks the right shot at the right time, which allows the rest of the batters to play freely, including Hardik,” Rohit said.

India’s Road to Glory

  • New Zealand posted 251/7, with key contributions from *Daryl Mitchell (63) and Michael Bracewell (53)**.
  • Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakravarthy (2/45) starred with the ball.
  • Rohit Sharma (76) led the charge in the chase, supported by Shreyas Iyer (48) and KL Rahul (34)* as India sealed victory with an over to spare.

A Historic Milestone

This triumph makes India the first team to win the ICC Champions Trophy three times. Rohit concluded his remarks by once again thanking the passionate fans who backed the team throughout the tournament.

“Very grateful for the fans. We really appreciate their support. When they come out in numbers, it makes a huge difference.”
