Tensions Run High as Harris and Trump Compete in Close Presidential Election
Washington DC [US], November 5, 2024: With the 2024 US presidential election underway, polling remains extremely close between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump, leaving the final outcome uncertain.
American journalist Christian Caryl weighed in on the election, emphasizing the unpredictability. “It’s very hard to tell [who will win]. The polls have been…not really comforting to either side. It’s still a very close race,” Caryl commented. He noted that Trump’s side has commissioned numerous partisan polls, making it harder to assess a clear picture.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened at the Philly Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ahead of a scheduled rally for Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. As voters prepare to head to the polls, supporters of Kamala Harris voiced their concerns and aspirations for her victory. “We are very concerned about the polls… We are hoping there will not be any violence… We are supporting Kamala Harris,” shared one Harris supporter.
Another supporter, an artist from Los Angeles, showed his support by creating a poster for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) held in August in Chicago. “So far, I have raised over USD 100,000 for her campaign,” he said, adding, “I hope everybody votes for Kamala.” Meanwhile, halfway across the world, residents of Harris’s ancestral village, Thulasendrapuram in Tamil Nadu, offered prayers for her success in the election.
This is the 60th presidential election in US history, with 230 million eligible voters, though only about 160 million are registered. More than 70 million people have already cast their ballots through mail-in and early in-person voting, highlighting the high stakes and widespread anticipation surrounding this election.
The elected president will take office for a four-year term starting January 20, 2025, setting the stage for the next chapter in American governance amid a closely contested race.
