US Proposal Recognizes Crimea As Russian, Ukraine Stands Firm Amidst Ceasefire Push
April 24, 2025: As tensions escalate in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky clashed publicly on Wednesday over the fate of Crimea. During high-stakes negotiations in London aimed at ending the war, the US stunned allies by reportedly backing key demands from Moscow — including Ukrainian recognition of Crimea as Russian territory and a permanent bar on NATO membership.

US Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s stance, issuing an ultimatum: “It’s time to agree to the US peace plan or for the United States to walk away from the process entirely.” Vance outlined a plan to freeze current territorial lines and seek a long-term diplomatic resolution.

Ukraine’s Presidential Chief of Staff, Andriy Yermak, pushed back in a public statement, writing on X: “We will stand firm on our core principles during the negotiations — sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable.”

The US pivot toward a Russia-favored peace deal has raised alarm across European capitals. With Trump’s promise to end the war in “days,” Washington appears eager to close the chapter, even if the outcome undermines Ukrainian sovereignty.
