January 25, 2025: In a remarkable act of defiance against societal norms and personal adversity, two women in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district left their abusive husbands and married each other. “We were tormented by our husbands’ drinking and abusive behavior. This pushed us to choose a life of peace and love. We have decided to live in Gorakhpur as a couple and work to sustain ourselves,” Gunja shared with reporters.
The couple now plans to rent a room and begin their journey as life partners.
Temple priest Uma Shankar Pandey, who witnessed the event, mentioned, “They performed the rituals, purchased garlands and sindoor, and left quietly after completing the ceremony.”
Their story serves as an inspiring narrative of choosing self-respect and love over societal constraints.
