Vaibhav Suryavanshi Crushes 20-Ball Fifty, Breaks U19 Sixes Record in India’s Win Over England

The 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi falls just short of Rishabh Pant’s U19 record but dazzles with 86 off 31 balls and nine sixes in third youth ODI at Northampton

Northampton [UK], July 3: Indian cricket’s newest sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, delivered a jaw-dropping performance in the third ODI between India U19 and England U19, smashing a blistering 86 off just 31 balls and nearly eclipsing Rishabh Pant’s record for the fastest U19 half-century by an Indian. The 14-year-old rising star reached his fifty in just 20 deliveries, making it the second-fastest U19 ODI fifty ever by an Indian.

While Pant’s 18-ball half-century against Nepal in 2016 still holds the national record, Suryavanshi’s innings — laced with six fours and nine towering sixes — broke new ground by setting the record for the most sixes by an Indian U19 batter in a single ODI innings. His explosive knock came at an astonishing strike rate of over 277.

Globally, the record for the fastest U19 ODI fifty still belongs to South Africa’s Steve Stolk, who blitzed to a 13-ball half-century against Scotland in January this year.

A Masterclass in Power Hitting: India Clinch Series Lead

India U19 opted to bowl first at Northampton, and England U19 responded by posting 268/6 in 40 overs, with standout performances from Thomas Rew (76* off 44 balls) and BJ Dawkins (62 off 61). For India, Kanishk Chouhan led the bowling effort with an efficient 3/30.

The Indian run chase was ignited by Suryavanshi’s fireworks and supported by Vihaan Malhotra, who contributed 46 runs off 34 balls, including seven boundaries and a six. Together, the pair stitched a 73-run stand for the second wicket, laying a solid platform for the middle and lower order.

Later, Kanishk Chouhan returned to make an impact with the bat, scoring a match-winning 43 off 42 balls* to guide India home with four wickets and 33 balls to spare, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead in the five-match youth ODI series.

Suryavanshi’s Meteoric Rise: From IPL Teen Star to U19 Powerhouse

With 179 runs in three games at an average of 59.66 and a strike rate exceeding 213, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is now India’s top scorer and the second-highest overall in the series. His electrifying form has not only cemented his place in the U19 squad but also drawn comparisons with some of the biggest names in Indian cricket.

Earlier in 2025, Suryavanshi shot to fame during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL, where he made headlines as the youngest-ever centurion in men’s T20 cricket. In just seven matches, he amassed 252 runs, including a memorable 101 off 38 balls against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.

That innings, which included a 35-ball hundred, stands as the second-fastest century in IPL history — a remarkable feat for a teenager who had barely crossed the threshold of adolescence.

Displaying maturity far beyond his years, Suryavanshi has emerged as one of India’s most exciting young prospects, combining clean hitting with poise under pressure.

Day at a Glance:

  • India U19 beat England U19 by 4 wickets
  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi: 86 (31 balls, 6 fours, 9 sixes)
  • Fastest U19 half-century by an Indian since Rishabh Pant
  • Most sixes in an U19 ODI innings by an Indian
  • India leads series 2-1

As India continues to scout and nurture future stars, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making it increasingly clear — the future has already arrived.
