Novak Djokovic ends year at No.1 for record 8th time: ATP Rankings

Twenty-four-time Grand Slam victor Novak Djokovic secured the top ranking at the end of the 2023 ATP season for a record-tying eighth time.
Three of the four Grand Slam competitions were won by Djokovic: the US Open in July, the French Open in June, and the Australian Open in January. He set a men’s record in September by winning the US Open, and he also placed second at Wimbledon.
The 36-year-old star player defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Finals in Turin following a battle that lasted the entire season.

On Monday, the day after winning his eighth ATP Finals, the Serbian started his historic 400th week at the top of the ATP Rankings. The only player to break the 300-week barrier is Roger Federer (310 weeks). Djokovic and Federer were tied for the most year-end Top 3 finishes with 15. Djokovic has topped the ATP Rankings for 402 weeks running, and he will undoubtedly continue to do so until the week of January 22.
For the second year in a row, Alcaraz placed among the top two at the end of the year. Holger Rune, 20, finished the season ranked eighth. This marks the first time since 2000 that two players under the age of twenty have finished a year in the Top 10, Marat Safin (No. 2) and Lleyton Hewitt (No. 7).

For the second time in three years, Daniil Medvedev ended the year at number three.
In Toronto, 22-year-old Jannik Sinner won his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy and rose to a career-high No. 4. Conversely, Andrey Rublev, who won the ATP Masters 1000 championship in Monte-Carlo, placed among the top 5.
After suffering a devastating ankle injury in June 2022, German player Alexander Zverev made an impressive comeback to the Top 10 while Stefanos Tsitsipas secured his fifth consecutive year-end Top 10 finish. Hubert Hurkacz, a Polish tennis player, led the Tour in aces (1,031) and finished the season in the year-end Top 10 for the third consecutive year.

On December 29, the 18-country United Cup, which will be held in Sydney and Perth, Australia, will kick off the 2024 ATP Tour season.
