New Zealand Cricket (NZC) hired Andre Adams, a former all-rounder, as the bowling coach for the men’s national team for their upcoming five-match T20I home series against Pakistan. Adams was named on Wednesday.
Luke Ronchi, a former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman, will be the hitting coach in head coach Gary Stead’s team. The 48-year-old will join them. Adams will work with the Blackcaps team in Auckland on Wednesday. It will be a break for Chris Donaldson, who is New Zealand’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Simon Insley, who is their Team Performance Manager. Their jobs will be filled by Matt Long, who is Head of Athlete Development at Cricket Wellington, and Dave Meiring, who is High Performance Manager for Central Districts.
Adams’s last job was as the fast bowling coach for the New Zealand women’s team on their limited-overs tour of South Africa from September to October 2023. After he gets there, he will temporarily fill the spot that Shane Jurgensen left open. After the 2023 ODI World Cup was over, the former Australian cricket player quit his job as New Zealand’s bowling coach. As a player, Adams only played in one Test, 42 ODIs, and four T20Is for New Zealand. He worked for more than five years. Also, he had a good time playing county cricket in England with Nottinghamshire, Hampshire, and Essex before he retired in 2015.
There will be five T20Is between New Zealand and Pakistan. The first one will be on January 12 in Auckland. The series will give the Kiwis a chance to find the best team as they get ready for the T20 World Cup, which starts in June. Then, for the second and third games, both teams will go to Hamilton and Dunedin. Finally, for the last two T20Is, they will go to Christchurch.
