ODI World Cup 2023: ICC rates Ahmedabad pitch final as ‘average’

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the pitch at Ahmedabad’s iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, which played host to the 2023 ODI World Cup final between Australia and India on November 19, as “average.” This information is provided by ESPNcricinfo. Five Indian venues received an average overall rating when the ICC released its list of pitch and outfield ratings for eight ODI World Cup 2023 matches, according to ESPNcricinfo. In addition to playing host to the tournament’s championship match, the highly anticipated World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which was rated as “average” by ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson.

Another ‘average’ rating was given to the Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata, which was the site of the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia. Out of all the Indian World Cup 2023 venues, Eden Gardens has the highest average rating—five overall. The rating for Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium was ‘good’. ‘Men in Blue’ defeated ‘Men in Blue’ by 70 runs in the opening semi-final between India and New Zealand, played at Wankhede Stadium. The highest authority on cricket in the world rates pitches, and outfields separately, for every international match: excellent, good, average, below average, poor, and unfit.

Recalling the final game of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Australia chose to field first, and India found it difficult to bat on a hard surface. KL Rahul (66) and Virat Kohli (54), however, both scored fifty runs for their country. India lost all fifty overs, getting out for 240. At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) led Australia to their sixth World Cup victory in the chase of 241.
