Pak PM Imran Khan shows “commitment to One-China Policy”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan reaffirmed his country’s support for the Chinese government’s actions in the Muslim-majority Xinjiang province, Hong Kong, and Tibet, all of which are accused of significant human rights violations and genocide by the communist regime.

PM Khan is on a four-day visit to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics and meet the top Chinese leadership from political and business areas. In a joint statement, he expressed Pakistan’s “commitment to One-China Policy and support for China on Taiwan, South China Sea, Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet.

The tour also attempts to raise financial aid for Pakistan, which is suffering from high inflation. He inked a new deal with China on Friday to begin the second phase of the contentious China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s support comes at a time when the international community, as well as human rights organisations, have expressed worry about the Chinese government’s assault on human rights, centralization of political power, and pervasive surveillance.
