October 16, 2024: Alia Bhatt’s much-anticipated solo release in 2024, Jigra, has been struggling to live up to fan expectations at the box office. Despite initial buzz, the film has shown no signs of recovery during its weekdays. According to the latest report from Sacnilk.com, the movie earned ₹1.60 crore on its fifth day, bringing its total collection to ₹19.85 crore.

Jigra’s Box Office Performance

The box office numbers for Jigra have been underwhelming since its release. After a disappointing opening of ₹4.55 crore, the film saw some improvement on day two with ₹6.55 crore, but slipped again on day three with ₹5.5 crore. Monday’s earnings were a significant drop, bringing in just ₹1.65 crore. As of the fifth day, the film is yet to cross the ₹20 crore mark, making it the lowest opening for an Alia Bhatt-starrer in the past decade.

Film Details and Plot

Jigra is an escape-thriller co-produced by Alia Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The film also stars Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa. Alia portrays Satya Anand, a young woman determined to save her brother Ankur from a foreign prison where he is tortured and sentenced to death. The film’s intense storyline, however, has not translated into box office success.

Controversies Surrounding Jigra

Since its release, Jigra has been entangled in various controversies. Actor-filmmaker Divya Khossla Kumar claimed that the film’s plot closely resembled her own film Savi and accused Alia of manipulating box office figures. Additionally, Manipuri actor Bujou Thaangjam accused the film’s casting team of unprofessional behavior, stating he was invited to shoot for the movie but never received a follow-up.

With both lackluster earnings and ongoing controversies, Jigra continues to face challenges in its journey at the box office.
