Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva marked a significant moment in Indian cinema, and its second anniversary has brought the spotlight back on the ambitious project.
Released on September 9, 2022, the film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, was a high-budget fantasy adventure that captivated audiences with its visual effects and storytelling centered around Indian mythology and astras (divine weapons).
The film starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in their first-ever on-screen collaboration and also featured performances by Bollywood stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Mouni Roy. Cameos by Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Dimple Kapadia further enhanced the movie’s star power.
Despite some mixed critical reviews, Brahmastra performed exceptionally well at the box office, grossing over ₹400 crore and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2022. The movie was praised for its groundbreaking visual effects, memorable music, including hits like “Kesariya” and “Rasiya,” and its ability to merge Indian cultural elements with modern filmmaking techniques.
The announcement of sequels — Brahmastra Part Two and Three — has generated significant anticipation, with fans eager to see the next chapters unfold. Ayan Mukerji has shared that the development for both parts is in progress, expanding the Brahmastra universe further. Last month, the film added three National Awards to its accolades, winning Best Male Playback Singer (Arijit Singh for Kesariya), Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comic), and Best VFX Film.
This universe, and the possibilities of future films, continue to inspire curiosity, especially around who will headline Brahmastra 2 and how the storyline will evolve. Fans are excited to see what the next chapters of this franchise will bring, with Ayan promising to unveil more artwork and details soon.
