Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has kept their playoff aspirations alive with a decisive 47-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in an IPL 2024 encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Despite commendable efforts from Jake Fraser-McGurk and Axar Patel, DC fell short in their chase of 188 runs, managing only 140 in response.
Yash Dayal spearheaded the RCB bowling attack, claiming three wickets for just 20 runs. Lockie Ferguson supported well, taking two wickets, while Swapnil Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Cameron Green each took a wicket to stifle the Capitals’ batting lineup.
Jake Fraser-McGurk and stand-in skipper Axar Patel were the standout performers for DC, scoring 21 and 57 runs respectively. Shai Hope also contributed with 29 runs, but the quick loss of wickets derailed their chase.
Reflecting on the match, Yash Dayal captured the winning moment by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav at the start of the last over, sealing the game for RCB.
The first innings saw DC opting to bowl first, a decision that initially seemed to favor them as they restricted RCB to a competitive total. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened the batting for RCB but were unable to convert their starts into a substantial innings.
Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar added crucial runs to the board, with Jacks scoring 41 and Patidar 52, but their dismissals saw a slowdown in the scoring rate. Cameron Green and Mahipal Lomror later stabilized the innings, pushing the total to 187/9.
Khaleel Ahmed and Rasikh Dar Salam were the pick of the bowlers for DC, each taking two wickets.
This win places RCB in a favorable position to advance to the playoffs, reflecting their continued resilience in the tournament.
