Review ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba’ Delivers a Darker, Gripping Sequel

Film: Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba
Director: Jayprad Desai
Writer: Kanika Dhillon
Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, Sunny Kaushal, Jimmy Shergill

Masterful story-telling, tight editing and effortless all round performances, make this sequel ‘Phir Aayi Haseen Dilruba’ a winner from start to end.

Unbroken story line and character continuation with an intricately woven plot around story author Dinesh Pandit holds your attention throughout.

Though sequels are seldom as interestingly as the first film ‘Haseena Dilruba’, in this case, it’s a story that’s come of age and is even darker, more warped and gripping than the first one.

Vikrant Massey as Rishu Saxena, and Taapsee Panu as Rani Kashyap, are joined in the sequel by Jimmy Shergill as investigating officer Mrityunjay and Sunny Kaushal as Mar-mitne-wala ashiq, Abhimanyu.

With Rishabh assumed dead and the murder case against Rani closed, the sequel opens to the unsettled and separated lovers who contrive and scheme to skip town and start a new life in Thailand. But destiny has other plans and entry of new friends and foes complicates matters.

ACP Jamwal (Aditya Srivastava) on the hunch that Rishabh is alive, seeks help of ACP Mrityunjay Paswan (Jimmy Sheirgill), who happens to be uncle to Neel, who was killed by the duo in the first film.

Truth is now personal!

The scheming duo Rani, and Rishu, then, plan to entrap mild mannered, compounder, Abhimanyu, who is smitten by Rani. Little do they know that this simpleton, has secrets of his own that can dent their plans and how!

Plot twists are aplenty and its quite impossible to predict the outcome as they all look trustworthy, yet you can trust none!

Taapsee Panu looks hot in her stringy blouses as a small-town beautician staying as a PG in Agra. Vikrant is good as always, but Sunny Kaushal is the scene stealer in the film. He is outstanding as an underdog, who looks harmless and yet unhinged at the same time.

Jimmy Shergill looks sharp and acts well as always

The soundtrack and music score are striking as is the camera work and choice of real life locations. They help build the mood and set the tone of the film.

All in all, a must-watch for anyone who appreciates well-crafted storytelling and strong performances. Eagerly wait for the next instalment.
