Review: ‘Rautu Ka Raaz’ A Gripping Tale of Mystery and Intrigue

Directed by: Anand Surapur
Star Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Inspector, Deepak Negi
Atul Tiwari as Manoj Keshri
Rajesh Kumar as Sub Inspector, Naresh Dimri
Narayani Shastri as Warden Sangeeta
Runtime: 1 hour 54 minutes

The film is set in a sleepy hamlet, Rautu, near Mussoorie, where the female warden of Sevadham school for the blind, is found dead.

What appears a natural death, has to be investigated, as per process, after a colleague reports her passing away to the local police.

Inspector Negi and his team quickly become suspicious after a number of contradictory testimonies and suspicious incidents following the death.

But the team soon realises, that uncovering the truth is no easy task, with blind students and their disability hindering discovery clubbed with political interventions, local greed and deviance of some members of support staff.

An insipid yet interesting whodunit, the film boasts of a solid narrative and a compelling storyline. Director Anand Surpur has done a wonderful job with a simple yet effective script.

The pace of the film is a little slow, but is in line with the location of the film.

Every frame of the screenplay has been utilised with utmost perfection including subtle humorous exchanges between characters.

Nawazuddin Siddique, single handedly carries the film on his shoulders, though Rajesh Kumar as Sub Inspector Dimri also add flavour to the film and conversations between him and Nawaz bring delightful humour.

The ending of the movie is really well thought of and just when you think you’ve identified the culprit, the tables turn, and the real murderer is revealed.

The U-Turn in the story is expertly executed, making the movie a thrilling ride from start to finish.

All in all a good watch!
