Bengaluru: After India’s thrilling win over Afghanistan in the third T20I, which extended to two Super Overs, captain Rohit Sharma praised Rinku Singh for his crucial role. Rohit highlighted Rinku’s growing confidence and understanding of his strengths, calling his performance “coming of age.”

In the match, despite Rohit’s record fifth T20I century and half-centuries from Afghanistan’s top-order batters, the teams were tied, leading to an intense Super Over showdown. Rohit, reflecting on the rare occasion of batting three times in a match, recalled a similar experience in an IPL game.

Rohit and Rinku’s significant 190-run partnership was a game-changer. Rohit emphasized the importance of maintaining intent and batting deep under pressure. He acknowledged Rinku’s recent series performances, praising his composure and ability to understand his game well. He noted that Rinku’s form bodes well for the team, especially in finishing games, a skill he’s demonstrated in the IPL and now for India.

Rinku’s T20I record for India has been impressive, with an average of 89.00 and a strike rate over 176, including two half-centuries.

In the match, India, initially struggling at 22/4, reached 212/4 thanks to Rohit’s and Rinku’s knocks. Afghanistan’s strong response led by Gurbaz, Zadran, Naib, and Nabi tied the game. The first Super Over was also a tie, but India clinched the win in the second, with Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling proving decisive.

Rohit received the ‘Player of the Match’ award, and Shivam Dube was named ‘Player of the Series’ for his consistent performance throughout.
