Rohit Sharma Addresses Concerns About Mayank Yadav’s Fitness And Injury History

October 15, 2024: India’s cricket team, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, is preparing for the three-match Test series against New Zealand, set to begin on October 16, 2024, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

In a pre-series press conference, Rohit Sharma highlighted the importance of carefully managing the workload of fast bowler Mayank Yadav, given his history of injuries. Rohit emphasized that the team would not rush Mayank into action, instead monitoring him daily to gradually build up his red-ball workload.

He expressed the team’s intent to develop Yadav progressively, avoiding unnecessary pressure that could risk further injury.

Rohit also touched on the inclusion of Mayank Yadav and Nitesh Kumar Reddy as traveling reserves, mentioning the potential the team sees in them despite their limited experience in red-ball cricket.

He added that the management is looking to groom these players for future series, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia later this year. This reflects India’s broader strategy of building bench strength, particularly among fast bowlers, to create depth and versatility in the squad.

The official squad for the series was announced, with Jasprit Bumrah appointed as vice-captain, and the 15-player list includes names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli. The traveling reserves, alongside Yadav and Reddy, include Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna, reinforcing India’s focus on nurturing young talent.
