Sharma’s recent performances, particularly during home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, have contributed to this decline. In the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand, he scored only 2 and 52, followed by disappointing scores of 0 and 8 in Pune, leading to India’s first home Test series defeat in 12 years.
Historically, Sharma’s ranking had improved significantly after twin centuries against South Africa in October 2019, where he peaked at a career-high rating of 813 in September 2021. However, his current rating has dropped to 649, marking a substantial fall from grace.
In the bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah lost his No. 1 position to South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, while Pakistan’s Nauman Ali entered the top ten among bowlers.
Other Indian players also saw ranking changes, with Virat Kohli slipping six places to 14th and Rishabh Pant dropping five spots to 11th. In the bowling rankings, Jasprit Bumrah lost his No. 1 position to South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, while Pakistan’s Nauman Ali entered the top ten among bowlers.
On a brighter note, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel surged to 7th in the batting rankings, while India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal moved up to 3rd, displacing England’s Harry Brook.
