Mumbai, November 9, 2024: Celebrated filmmaker Rohit Shetty recently shared insights on the remarkable success of his latest blockbuster, Singham Again, and addressed its much-discussed box office clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Despite both films releasing over Diwali, they have each been performing exceptionally well at the box office, marking a rare occurrence in the industry.
“I’m thrilled that audiences are enjoying Singham Again. The film has had a fantastic run, drawing huge crowds to theatres and generating great revenue,” Rohit Shetty said. Addressing the clash, he explained, “We tried to avoid it, but the Diwali theme was integral to our release plan. In just a week, both films collectively crossed over Rs 300 crore, which is a rare feat.”
Singham Again, a high-energy cop drama, brings together a powerhouse cast, including Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Jackie Shroff, and Ranveer Singh, with a special cameo by Salman Khan. The film continues the popular Singham franchise that began in 2011 and has grown to be a cultural phenomenon in Indian cinema.
In contrast, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, a horror-comedy directed by Anees Bazmee, features Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit Nene, and Triptii Dimri. The franchise first made waves with its debut in 2007, followed by Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in 2022, which was a huge success.
Ajay Devgn, the lead of Singham Again, also weighed in on the clash. “We tried to avoid releasing on the same date, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned,” Ajay shared. “Given Singham Again’s Diwali theme, changing the release date wasn’t feasible. But both films are thriving, so it worked out in the end.”
Both films opened to impressive numbers, collectively making history with a combined Rs 79 crore India net on the first day—Singham Again debuted with Rs 43.5 crore, while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 followed closely with Rs 36.6 crore.
Bhushan Kumar, the producer of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, also spoke about the clash and its potential impact. “I’m overjoyed by the love audiences have shown Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The film has had a phenomenal start,” he said. Reflecting on the box office situation, he added, “While the clash could have been avoided, each of us had our own commitments. Business would have been even stronger with a solo release, but we’re happy with the film’s success.”
With both Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 shattering records, audiences have been treated to an exciting Diwali season, showing that two major releases can indeed coexist and thrive.
