Former India cricketer VVS Laxman is confident that the experienced trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to make significant contributions in the longer formats of cricket after announcing their retirement from T20Is.
India’s T20 World Cup final brought a wave of mixed emotions for Indian fans. There was jubilation as India ended their 13-year ICC World Cup drought, but also sadness as these three star players bid farewell to the shortest format of the game.
Laxman, currently serving as the head coach of the Indian team for their T20I tour of Zimbabwe, expressed his gratitude towards the veteran trio for their immense contributions over the past decade.
“My message to these three stalwarts of the game, you know, Virat, Rohit, and I consider Ravindra Jadeja also an extremely talented player who has contributed immensely to the development and progress of the Indian cricket team. A big congratulations. Thank you for all the contributions they’ve given to this great game and for setting an example for the youngsters to follow. The passion and pride with which they played the game is exemplary,” Laxman said in a video posted by BCCI on X.
Laxman firmly believes that despite retiring from T20Is, the trio will continue to bring laurels to the country in the longer formats of cricket.
“While they’ve retired from this format, I’m sure that they will continue to prepare the way they have so far in their careers and continue to bring laurels to the country. So, big congratulations on an excellent T20I career, but I’m sure that they’re going to contribute in the longer version of the game and the 50-over format,” Laxman added.
India’s squad for their upcoming tour against Sri Lanka is yet to be announced. This series will mark the first assignment of newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir, who succeeded Rahul Dravid following India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign.
