Roundglass Punjab strikes gold: Hockey India Junior, Sub-Junior Academy Championship 2023

Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy emerged victorious in both the Junior and Sub Junior categories on the last day of the 1st Hockey India Junior and Sub Junior Men Academy Championship 2023 – (Zone A), having defeated Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy and Namdhari XI in their respective Finals. Army Boys Sports Company placed third in the junior category, and HAR Hockey Academy placed third in the sub-junior category.

Champions, Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy: Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy defeated Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy 6-1 in the Sub Junior Category Final. Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy was led by Inderjit Singh (2′, 8′, 32′), who scored a hat-trick; in the last quarter, Deepakpreet Singh (55′) scored a field goal and Charanjeet Singh (35′, 44′) scored a brace. Although Tashu (37′) gave Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy a lead in the third quarter, Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy won the Gold by not allowing any more mistakes to occur.

HAR Hockey Academy places third: HAR Hockey Academy defeated Raja Karan Hockey Academy 5-2 in the Sub Junior Category’s third/fourth place match. HAR Hockey Academy’s captain Sachin (13′, 14′), Aman (19′, 48′), and Sahil (57′) each scored a brace, while Sahil (57′) scored the game’s winning goal. Raja Karan Hockey Academy’s Vansh (29′) and Mayank Rawat (39′) goals were sufficient to prevent HAR Hockey Academy from taking home the bronze, but they would have needed much more.

In the end, Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy wins:
Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy defeated Namdhari XI 3-1 in the Junior Category Final. Late in the opening quarter, Captain Navraj Singh (14′) converted a penalty corner to give Namdhari XI the lead. In the second quarter, Japnit Singh (25′, 34′, 50′) of the Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy converted another penalty corner to tie the score. After dominating their opponents throughout the tournament, he then assisted Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy in taking the lead in the third quarter with a field goal. In the fourth quarter, he converted yet another penalty corner, and his hat-trick helped Roundglass Punjab Hockey Club Academy win the Gold.

Bronze is won by Army Boys Sports Company: The team defeated HAR Hockey Academy 3-1 in the Junior Category’s third-and fourth-place match. Nitesh Sharma’s goal (16′) gave Army Boys Sports Company the lead early in the second quarter. Manjeet’s penalty corner conversion (28′) later in the quarter doubled the team’s lead. Ravinder (33′) gave HAR Hockey Academy the lead in the third quarter with a field goal, but Army Boys Sports Company’s Samir (57′) goal late in the game sealed third place for them.
