Sanjay Dutt recently took to Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to his late mother, actress Nargis, on what would have been her 95th birthday. The heartfelt post expressed his deep love and longing for his mother, the iconic star of ‘Mother India.’

“Happy birthday mama, I miss you every day, every minute, every second. I wish you were with me, leading the life you wanted me to, and I hope I have made you proud. Love you and miss you, mama,” Sanjay wrote. He accompanied the note with touching photos, including a cherished moment of a young Sanjay smiling with his mom.

Nargis made her film debut at age five in ‘Talash-E-Haq’ (1935) but began her illustrious career with ‘Tamanna’ (1942). Her final role was in ‘Raat Aur Din.’ Nargis and Sunil Dutt famously fell in love on the set of ‘Mother India’ after a fire incident led to Sunil rescuing her. They married on March 11, 1958, and she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Mother India.’

After marriage, Nargis left films and dedicated herself to her family and social work. She became the first patron of The Spastic Society of India and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1980. Nargis received the Padma Shri in 1958 and passed away from pancreatic cancer on May 3, 1981, at the age of 51.
