Schools till 10th reopen in Karnataka from today

Amidst the ongoing Hijab row in Karnataka, schools resume physical classes for students from 1st to 10th in the state on Monday.

School colleges were closed for three days after Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s announcement in order to maintain peace and tranquillity in the state. In a press briefing, CM said, “Schools up to 10th standard will re-open from Monday. I’ve instructed the DCs, SPs and school administrations to conduct a peace committee meeting. Schools for higher classes and degree colleges will re-open after reviewing the situation.”

Meanwhile, section 144 is imposed in the Udupi district till February 19th. According to the Tehsildar, of Udupi district, “Students are coming to school, the situation is peaceful, & the district administration is following high court orders.” (Reported by ANI).

However, videos of parents urging and pleading the school administration to let the Hijab wearing girls enter the school premises, are circulating on social media.

Massive protests in favour of Hijab and against students wearing Hijab emerged after 6 students in Udupi were denied entry into college as they were wearing Hijab, after which the matter escalated to the national level.

The Karnataka High Court is set to resume hearing the Hijab case at 2:30 pm today.
