“Second To None”, Says Phil Salt On Liam Livingstone

England’s stand-in captain, Phil Salt, had glowing praise for Liam Livingstone after his outstanding performance in the second T20I against Australia, which helped England level the series 1-1.

Livingstone’s explosive knock of 87 off 47 balls, including six fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 185.11, brought England to the brink of victory before he was dismissed by Matthew Short. His all-round performance, which also included taking two wickets for 16 runs, played a key role in England’s win.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Salt hailed Livingstone’s effort as “second to none,” praising his experience and versatility. “He’s no mug,” Salt said, acknowledging Livingstone’s ability to shine after regaining full fitness. Salt further highlighted Livingstone’s contributions in the series, with five wickets and over 100 runs in two games, hoping he continues the momentum in the decider at Old Trafford.

Salt also praised youngster Jacob Bethell, who played a pivotal role in their 90-run partnership, scoring a quick-fire 44 off 24 deliveries. Salt was impressed by Bethell’s ability to handle pressure, especially against Adam Zampa, Australia’s top bowler. “To see Beth come out and play the way he did… really impressed,” Salt said, highlighting Bethell’s maturity and composure in only his second international game.

Salt, enjoying his leadership role in the absence of Jos Buttler due to injury, was optimistic about the final match. “A win tonight keeps the series alive and gives us a good incentive at Old Trafford,” he concluded, expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance and strategy adjustments.
