‘She Said’ Review: The Courageous Tale of Journalists Who Exposed Weinstein”

‘She Said’, is a film based on true events. The film follows the true story of two female reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor and their bombshell New York Times investigation. The duo inspire by putting their domestic life on hold to shatter the silence surrounding sexual assault in Hollywood by sheer grit and determination.

Poised to be one of the definitive films of the #MeToo era, the film is adapted by Brad Pitt’s co-owned Plan B Entertainment and Megan Ellison’s Annapurna. It is directed by the hugely talented, visionary director Maria Shrader.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan and Emmy nominee Zoe Kazan star as the two New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor who broke perhaps the most important story of the decade.

The film captures everything you would want from a realistic, no-nonsense, brilliant scene-by-scene true story of the Harvey Weinstein saga and the female journalists who painstakingly follow and assist in taking the events to their logical conclusion.

A cleverly made film that flows organically to hold your interest and capture the telling moments of entrapment, fear and a trade-off between a film career in lieu of sexual favours.

It is unflinching in bringing to fore the infamous confidentiality agreements to silence Weinstein’s sordid reputation as primary weapons and using and abusing his power, aided and abetted by his legal department on victims who simply wanted to make the most of their chosen careers.

The screenplay shows beautifully the hesitation in victims, who are wary of re-living the hurt and pain of the life changing incidents after their contact with Weinstein; and Twohey and Kantor’s relentless struggle to obtain their approvals to share their stories with the world.

‘She said’s’ treatment of Weinstein character is effective and skilful too- suggestive through voice, calls, narratives and references of what he thinks and wants.

The whole story is a reality check for male and female alike on how power can potentially keep a strangle-hold on our lives and careers.

The film ‘She Said’ was recently released on Netflix in India. We highly recommend a watch for this one.
