November 12, 2024: Celebrated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is all set to revisit his classic 1983 film Masoom with a highly anticipated sequel. However, the project faced a twist of fate recently when Kapur accidentally left the script for Masoom 2 on a flight. Recalling the experience, Kapur shared that he realised he’d left the precious script behind after disembarking from a flight from Dubai to Delhi.
In an interview with ANI, Kapur recounted, “I was traveling, and I suddenly realized I had left the Masoom 2 script on the plane. It was a moment of panic.” However, luck was on his side. A flight attendant returned the script to him with a note saying that the original Masoom was a cherished film, and she was confident that the sequel would be just as impactful. “It’s destiny,” Kapur remarked, grateful for the turn of events.
The original Masoom, based on Eric Segal’s Man, Woman, and Child, was a critical success, starring Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi. The sequel is expected to carry forward the emotional depth of the original, featuring a star-studded cast including Azmi, Shah, Manoj Bajpayee, and Kapur’s daughter, Kaveri. Shooting is scheduled to start in early 2025.
