Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland — July 15: Rory McIlroy will have a homecoming of sorts as the 2025 Open Championship tees off Thursday at Royal Portrush Golf Club, just 60 miles from where the five-time major winner grew up. It marks the first time in 15 years that McIlroy will compete for a major title in his native country. Despite the home-field advantage, he faces stiff competition and a 10-year drought at this tournament, with his lone Open Championship win coming in 2014.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler enters the tournament as the +450 favorite, even though he has yet to crack the top five in this event. McIlroy follows at +700, while Bryson DeChambeau (+2000), defending champion Xander Schauffele (+2500), and Tyrrell Hatton (+3000) round out the notable names.

Surprisingly, SportsLine’s predictive model does not favor McIlroy finishing in the top three, citing mixed performances since his Masters victory earlier this year. The model instead tips Tyrrell Hatton, a 30-1 longshot, as a top-10 contender, highlighting his strong showings at recent majors.

The model also identified four more under-the-radar players with odds of 28-1 or longer, including one 50-1 longshot predicted to make a deep run. Golf fans and bettors alike are advised to consult the full SportsLine predictions before placing bets.
