Abhishek Sharma Reveals The Heartwarming Meaning Behind His Viral ‘L’ Celebration Against Pakistan

In a match filled with heated moments and controversial gestures, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma revealed his ‘L’ sign stood for ‘love’—a direct, positive message to fans after his record-breaking performance. The celebration became an instant hit for its calm contrast to the on-field tension.

September 22, 2025: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma‘s “L” sign celebration after his half-century against Pakistan has now been explained. It was a message of love for his fans, even though the match was heavily criticized for on-field gestures and verbal volleys.

In a frank conversation with captain Suryakumar Yadav on BCCI.tv, the young batter, who broke the record with 74 runs off just 39 balls, explained why.

“This is love.” The letter “L” stands for love. Abhishek said Suryakumar, “This party is for people who love the Indian team and for the fans who watch us in the IPL.” The nice gesture happened during a game that was full of angry exchanges. Abhishek said in his Player of the Match interview that Pakistan’s bowlers, especially Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, got him angry. “I didn’t like how they were coming at us for no reason.” He said, “That’s why I went after them,” which gave his calm, cool joy a fierce undertone.

Abhishek’s performance was remarkable since he broke a 13-year-old record by getting the fastest T20I half-century by an Indian against Pakistan in just 24 balls. He and Shubman Gill set a record for the most runs scored by an opening pair, 105, which set the stage for India’s six-wicket win. Experts in cricket from across the border praised the young opener for his mix of controlled aggression and strong hitting. Former Pakistan captains praised his “fearless mindset.”
