Agni Chopra Overjoyed To Receive Award From His Idol Rohit Sharma

February 2, 2025: Agni Chopra was just a teenager when he received advice from his father, the noted producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, that would shape the course of his life: “Whatever profession you pursue, try to give it your best shot.” Little did he know that this simple yet profound piece of advice would guide him through one of the most challenging and rewarding journeys in his cricket career.

The decision to leave Mumbai — a city known for its bustling cricket scene — and pursue first-class cricket in Mizoram, where the sport was still growing, was not an easy one. But it was a decision that Agni embraced wholeheartedly, knowing that sometimes stepping out of one’s comfort zone is necessary for growth.

At just 26, Agni has already carved a name for himself in Indian cricket. His efforts in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season were nothing short of stellar. Playing for Mizoram, Agni amassed a remarkable 939 runs with an impressive average of over 80. His performances stood as a testament to his dedication and consistency, making him the top run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy Plate League.

Receiving the prestigious BCCI award for the ‘Top Run Getter in Ranji Trophy Plate League’ was a dream come true for Agni. He received the award from none other than his childhood idol, Indian captain Rohit Sharma. For Agni, it was a surreal moment — a full-circle experience. “It meant a lot to receive this award from Rohit bhai, who is also from Mumbai and whom I have idolized for many years. I have watched Rohit bhai play for almost half of my life, and it feels like a full-circle moment to receive it from the captain of India,” Agni shared.

The presence of his parents, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Anupama Chopra, in the audience made the occasion even more special. “To have my parents cheering me on was an incredible feeling because they have always supported me through difficult times when I was in and out of the Mumbai team,” Agni added.

Despite the recognition, Agni’s journey is far from over. His goal is not just to shine in domestic cricket, but to elevate Mizoram cricket to the Elite Group in the Ranji Trophy. But more than anything, his ultimate dream is to wear the navy blue India Test cap, representing the country he so dearly loves. Agni’s move to Mizoram was a leap of faith, but it has paid off in ways he could never have imagined. And now, with a hunger for greater challenges, he continues to push the boundaries of his cricketing career.

As Agni looks forward to what lies ahead, he remains committed to giving his best in every match, just as his father advised him all those years ago. With his talent, hard work, and dedication, Agni Chopra is undoubtedly a player to watch in the years to come.
